Jewelry Care Guide

We want you to take care of your jewelry as much as you love it!

Eco Gems & Care

CLED Eco Gems are made of recycled glass and could be worn every day. Our Eco Gems are durable due to our glass annealing process which strengthens the glass, but it can possibly break if dropped on a hard surface. Care should be taken when handling delicate pieces.

Please note each piece is individually handcrafted so size and color may slightly vary from the featured images.

Our glass gems are all hand formed or fused in a high temperature and for that reason, inclusions, which are tiny impurities, or bubbles, are trapped in the air, making each gem unique. This is not a defect but a natural phenomenon which makes our glass gem colors, shapes, and sizes vary from one another.

Metals

In the design and crafting process, we aim to ensure that no metal goes to waste. We use recycled metals that are remelted and refined from damaged jewelry, casting scrap, or industrial scrap. 70% of metals used in our pieces are from recycled sources. Ideally, we would source 100% reclaimed metals but as a small brand, it is challenging since suppliers require large order quantities. As we continue to grow, our goal is to source 100% recycled metals.

Our jewelry is made with sterling silver, brass, gold vermeil, and gold-filled. Metal and solder are free from nickel, lead, and cadmium. All our metals are in compliance with EU regulation.

* Ear posts and backs are all solid sterling silver & hypoallergenic as well. Since solid sterling silver is a malleable precious metal, ear backs can get loose. It can be adjusted back onto the ear post if loose.

Metal Care

Oxidizing is a natural reaction of sterling silver, and jewelry can tarnish and discolor more easily due to moisture and oils. Wearing silver regularly helps retain its brightness, but prolonged periods of non-use can tarnish or turn grey depending on the surrounding climate.

After wearing a piece, we recommend wiping it with our cotton pouch and storing it in the pouch with the black anti-tarnish tab we provide in the packaging.

CLED cannot guarantee that the gold plating on our jewelry will last forever. The luster and plating depend on how well it is cared for. Gold plating wears off over time. To ensure your gold-plated jewelry lasts, we recommend avoiding contact with liquids like water, chlorine, and cleaning products and removing your jewelry before exercising or showering. Store your jewelry separately in our anti-tarnish cotton pouch and its original box to avoid scratches and damage after use.

We offer expert plating/cleaning services for gold-plated pieces and sterling silver. The service fee varies for each piece. Please email us at hello@thecled.com for more information.
